SPEEDA Launches English-Language News with Articles from 2,000 Global Media Sources

Tokyo, Japan (26 September 2018) – Uzabase (TYO: 3966; Headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo; Co-CEOs: Yusuke Inagaki and Yusuke Umeda) announced today that it will start providing English-language articles from Dow Jones on its company and industry information platform “SPEEDA”.

In January 2018, the Japanese language version of SPEEDA was linked with Factiva, a service offered by Dow Jones. Through Factiva, SPEEDA users were able to receive Japanese language news articles from major global media sources from more than 200 countries including The Wall Street Journal, as well as breaking news such as Dow Jones Newswires. This partnership has helped to significantly expand the number of Japanese language articles on SPEEDA, providing one-stop access to a wide range of media articles for its users.

Now SPEEDA has expanded its news coverage in English, with the number of media sources increasing to more than 2,000 from 140, and the number of articles growing to more than 200 million from 25 million.

SPEEDA users are now able to browse English language articles from Factiva, such as financial and economic papers delivered by leading media sources, industry specialty papers, and economic newspapers from all over the world.

By being able to search and browse niche industry articles in English, SPEEDA users will be able to get timelier insights into potential developments, industry trends, new technologies, macroeconomic data in specialised industries, and up-to-date information on government policies (*1).

Currently English-language news articles are only available on the English language version of SPEEDA, but Uzabase aims to continue developing the product in order to provide these articles in the Japanese language version as well (*2).

Going forward, Uzabase intends to continue improving the functionality of SPEEDA, increasing the accuracy of its search algorithms and evolving our machine learning programs, thus ensuring that users can receive news that are most relevant to them.

Comment from Yasunori Naito, CEO of SPEEDA Asia

We are developing SPEEDA in order to provide a one-stop platform offering global business and economic data. Adding news information is especially crucial for realising our ambition to provide the tools for easy and timely retrieval and viewing of information that is necessary for daily decision-making.

SPEEDA has evolved substantially owing to the addition of these English-language news articles. Whether researching information for making an investment decision, business planning or the evaluation of business partners, it is now possible to gain access not only to the fundamental industry structure, industry environment, and corporate financial data that were available previously, but also the latest information on industry and company trends in English. We will continue to improve this function by increasing the accuracy of its underlying algorithms and expanding the scope of news articles offered.

Through SPEEDA, we will continue to empower our clients’ decision making in Japan and Asia-Pacific, and improve the tools available on our service by offering additional information and enhancing various functions.

Comment from Christopher Ellis, Dow Jones Head of Partnerships & Alliances, Asia Pacific

This announcement represents a further deepening our partnership with SPEEDA. The SPEEDA platform now has access to an even greater number of articles for users in Japanese and English making for an enhanced user experience. We are proud to be working with SPEEDA and helping to deliver our high quality news to help business critical decision making to their customers.

(*1): The information offered by SPEEDA only includes Factiva news information for which Dow Jones has obtained redistribution permission from its original publisher. In addition, educational and research institutions such as universities as well as legal communities, such as law firms, are excluded from this service offering at this time.

(*2): Japanese users are able to browse English articles by switching SPEEDA’s language to English.
