In collaboration with Singapore University of Technology and Design (“SUTD”) and private equity firm, Inventis Investment Holdings, SPEEDA is proud to have been the Platform Sponsor of the 2017 inaugural edition of the SUTD-Inventis Case Competition (“SICC”).
SICC, which consists of 2-day Business Essentials & Valuation workshops and the Competition, is designed to encourage critical thinking amongst undergraduates by providing them an opportunity to apply their knowledge towards growing and evaluating a business.
Industry practitioners, like Wadih Khayat, CFO for Asia Pacific at The Coca-Cola Company, and representatives from LEK Consulting, were invited to this year’s event to give keynote speeches to participants.
More than 350 students from National University of Singapore, Nanyang Technology School, Singapore Management University, and SIM entered into the competition.
During SICC, full access to SPEEDA and a comprehensive demo were given to over 48 students who made it to the semi-final, allowing them access to privileged business information otherwise available solely for industry practitioners.
SICC participants were required to submit their proposals within 48 hours after the case was released.
“We found SPEEDA useful as it had a wide range of companies within the database, and it was especially useful in looking at possible M&A targets that we would not otherwise be able to find,” said Bryan Yong from SMU after the competition.
“This iseven more so for Asian companies, like Singapore and HK, where we frequently have to do research on but cannot find much insights into,” he continued.
The competition was judged by an independent panel comprising leading industry practitioners, and winners were selected based on creativity, innovation, and the practicality of implementation in a real-life context.
